PROJECT OF SELF HELP UGANDA

POSHU works with women in rural, urban and remote areas of Uganda, where women are affected by HIV/AIDS, are Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) and those whose lives are impacted by violence and poverty.

The emphasis is what you can do for yourself

Whatever the project may be, our emphasis is on ‘what you can do for yourself.’ This is the strength of POSHU, listening and responding to the needs of the most vulnerable. Centred around creating spaces for women to heal and grow, nurturing occurs within the support of the social structure, which is strengthened and adapted to fit the values of the evolving community ~ Individual and community resilience are growing side by side ~

OUR VALUES

POSHU VISION

To create vibrant, healthy, self-sufficient and self-determining communities with hope for the future.

POSHU aims to create environment where education is valued and understood, working with the whole community to help them achieve their own goals.

POSHU creates safe meeting places for women to discuss their ideas and give emotional support to one another. For women who have been through so much grief and loss, through insurgency, or less of family members from Aids, their village POSHU group is important.

“We are like a family. We are not alone now thanks to the friends we make at POSHU class.”

POSHU’s primary focus is to be able to create a sustainable model to enable communities, particularly women, in Uganda to not only survive but to prosper.

POSHU aims to raise funds for projects identified within the community and has 4 primary goals:

To educate; decrease poverty; end violence and build confidence.
